Sawyer Premium Insect Repellent 20% Picaridin IS AIRLINE APPROVED - 3 oz spray

20% Picaridin is ideal for biting flies

Sawyer Premium Insect Repellent 20% Picaridin - 4 oz lotion Picaridin is a promising new repellent; its effect is similar to DEET, yet it is safer on gear and equipment than DEET.  At 20%, this long-lasting topical insect repellent is effective up to 12 hours against mosquitoes, ticks, biting flies, gnats, chiggers, and fleas. Our personal experience around the wetlands and swamps of Pennsylvania is that it does an excellent job against biting flies. Picaridin is more effective at repelling biting flies than DEET. Our 20% Picaridin is virtually odorless; it has a mild citrus scent added to it which quickly evaporates away. WILL NOT HARM GEAR OR EQUIPMENT!

Ask a Question
  • Is it safe for children under 10

    The short answer is Yes!
This is the current information from the EPA for any repellent - Thankyou for your question.  The general use for any person is 1. don't put or forehead because perspiration can cause it to run into eyes, 2. use a handy wipe or simular product to clean hands after your application, 3. best if one person does all the applications so that it is only one persons hands that need clean up. 4. don't apply to a hands since we all have a tendency to rub our faces and it would be uncomfortable getting it into the eyes.

According to the EPA (PDF), picaridin, a synthetic chemical that resembles a compound found in pepper, causes few known side effects. But it can irritate eyes and skin. It hasn't been studied as fully as deet, but health experts generally consider it to be safe for kids. Apr 14, 2022

  • You say this Picaridin won't harm gear, but how harmful is it to humans & can it be sprayed directly on skin?

My apology, I never was notified about your question.  Picaridin is approved for application directly to skin.  If you purchase a spray it can also be applied to clothing.  The lotion option is only for use on the skin.
